With the ‘CIRCULAR NETTLE JEANS’, we have developed a new type of trousers that are both a sustainable innovation in terms of material and a completely recyclable process. We use a blend of highly sustainable nettle fibre combined with recycled cotton from previously worn (post-consumer) trousers. All ingredients are designed with circularity in mind: Buttons can be unscrewed for recycling. All other ingredients are completely biodegradable: through the MAC take-back system ‘MAC JEANS FOR LIFE’, we create a process in which used trousers are returned to the cycle.

The production of clothing is often associated with high resource consumption and materials that are difficult to recycle, posing significant challenges to the textile industry. The »Circular Nettle Jeans« provides a convincing response by utilizing nettle fibers as a resource-efficient alternative to cotton and incorporating recycled cotton from used textiles. This is complemented by biodegradable and reusable components, as well as an intelligent take-back system that actively involves consumers in the circular process. Through this holistic approach, the jeans combine material innovation and circular economy in a remarkable way, offering an outstanding example of sustainable product design focused on resource efficiency and consumer engagement.
