Details

Olo combines a recognized design with convenience, usability and sustainability. It is comfortable and ergonomic hold-in-hand. Ambient light replaces disposable batteries as power source. A bi-facial photo voltaic cell harvests light from the back and from the front; it charges when placed on either side. Leading edge technology innovations in extreme low power computing, indoor low-light photo voltaic cells and energy harvesting power management helped greatly in reducing the area dedicated to light harvesting. The remote control is constructed with recycled plastics and does not use rubber. Ink is replaced with laser marking technology.

The Jury‘s Statement

Many remote controls still rely on disposable batteries, which pose significant environmental challenges in terms of usage and disposal. »Olo« addresses this issue with an innovative concept that combines sustainability, convenience, and user-friendliness: A bifacial photovoltaic cell efficiently harvests energy from both direct and indirect ambient light, eliminating the need for batteries. At the same time, the device impresses with its ergonomic design, the use of recycled materials, and an environmentally friendly laser marking process instead of ink.
