ETES – Electric Thermal Energy Storage
Description The core of Electric Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) technology is the innovative solid heat storage_unit comprised of volcanic rocks. The use of volcanic rocks guarantees a cost-effective, globally obtainable, reliable and long-lasting material. _There are no geographical restrictions to building ETES, as there are_with pumped storage power plants or compressed air storage systems. Depending on the use case, ETES offers three main applications with different input and output options: ETES Base: allows time-shifting (decoupling renewable energy generation and consumption). ETES Switch: reuse of existing infrastructure (second-life option for conventional / coal power plants). ETES Add: electrification and decarbonisation of industrial processes.
