HOERBIGER TorqueLINE Twin Cone
Description
The TorqueLINE Twin Cone replaces multi-disk clutches and is suitable for use in hybrid and electric drives. The system reduces drag losses by as much as 90 % and decreases actuating forces by up to 60 %. The Twin Cone has the same dimensions, interfaces and lubricating characteristics of a multi-disk clutch, making it highly compatible. Thanks to the compact design, the Twin Cone saves resources and weight, thereby lowering a vehicle’s fuel consumption and emissions.
Jury statement
Classic multi-plate clutches require eight to twelve friction surfaces for the transmission of equal torque, but in their open state these cause notable drag losses. The TorqueLINE Twin Cone, however, needs just two or four conical friction surfaces, depending on the set-up of the system. Thus, the innovative switch element adds up to 25 % less weight to the vehicle while also producing up to 90 % less drag loss. It’s a saving that’s particularly interesting for drives in electric vehicles. With the Twin Cone, HOERBIGER has succeeded in taking existing knowledge from the areas of surface technology, conical friction systems and the trialling and construction of synchronisation systems and applying it in an ingenious way, thus creating a new system for a variety of areas of application. A highly innovative design that makes classic multi-plate clutches seem outdated.
